Here are 4 reasons why I loved Solo: A Star Wars Story!

“I’ve got a good feeling about this.” There was a time when Han wasn’t so skeptic! I just saw Solo: A Star Wars Story and it was nice to not leave the theater in tears like I did after watching the last three Star Wars movies. There was some sad stuff, but the action was fun and thrilling. Storm Troopers were lurking around, but I wasn’t worried that Han and his pals were going to get crushed by an AT-AT. Here’s what I loved about this movie.

When Han met Chewie

The bromance is born in this movie, and Alden Ehrenreich and Joonas Suotamo (in the Chewbacca suit) had great chemistry. I awwwwww-ed frequently over this pair: when they met, when they first saw the Falcon, when Chewie sat in the co-pilot seat. If you ever get a chance to meet Chewie at DIsney, go do it. He gives the best hugs. Who wouldn’t want to be friends with a Wookie?

Shout outs to the animated series

Han grew up on Corellia, a ship making world, so he knows his vehicles. He name drops the VCX-100 light freighter, which happens to be the model of the Ghost on Rebels. And then there’s all the crime underworld stuff and a big cameo, which are right out of The Clone Wars season 5. Nice little nods to people who’ve been paying attention to the cartoons.

New characters

Woody Harrelson’s Beckett warns Han to trust no one. And this movie introduces lots of shady types, Beckett and his team included. There’s also Qi’ra, played by Emilia Clarke, aka the mother of dragons, and you really just wonder what she’s been up to since Han saw her three years ago. And Dryden Vos (Paul Bettany), who wears his rage on his face, has some pretty cool blade fighting skills.

Donald Glover

Over the last few weeks, I kept referring to this movie as Lando. I knew Donald Glover was going to be awesome in Lando Calrissian’s capes. He was just so charming, but also super funny in the way he was obsessed with his clothes, his ship and his droid L3-37.

There was so much more to love. Cool planets and aliens. A new take on the classic John Williams’ score. And the promise of a sequel. Check out my review (it’s spoiler free!) on Robin & Penny and be sure to hit the subscribe button!
