Elsa, Anna and the crew are finally back for more adventures into the unknown in Frozen 2. And I absolutely loved the movie! I’ve even seen it twice, and I’ve been listening to the soundtrack nonstop with my nieces, and OK, sometimes by myself.

Here’s why I loved the movie. I’m going to try to avoid spoilers!

Frozen 2 Scenery

Frozen 2 is gorgeous

The movie takes place in autumn and the color palates in this movie are glorious. The whites and blues of snow and ice have been replaced with pink, orange and purple tones, swirling leaves and beautiful landscapes. There are quite a few costume changes for Elsa and Anna, and each look is stunning and detailed. I especially love Elsa in white and Anna’s very practical exploring look with a saddle bag. One of my other favorite visuals is an icy boat, that I hope will become part of the Frozen ride at Epcot. You feel every bit of the crisp fall air, just like you felt the cold and snow in the original movie.

Frozen 2 Anna & Olaf

We get some answers!

Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven set out to figure out what’s causing trouble in Arendelle and along the way they find out more about what happened to the king and queen, and discover more about Elsa’s powers.

The characters have grown up

There’s a wink wink moment in the song Some Things Never Change when Olaf sings “And you all look a little bit older” looking right at the audience. As a maturing snowman, Olaf is asking questions about existence. His solo When I Am Older tries to make sense of it all. Kristoff has a big question of his own to deal with. The squad has gotten so cozy they even have game night. While Elsa has settled into her role as queen, she wants more. Anna is enjoying her life now that the castle doors are open and tries to hold it all together. She’s gone from the girl who gets engaged to someone she just met to the group mom.

Frozen 2 - All is Found

The Frozen 2 soundtrack is life

Let It Go was the Disney movie version of a viral YouTube video. I think it will take something completely different and epic to dethrone that song. So I didn’t expect there to be anything that powerful on this soundtrack.

Don’t get me wrong. I am obsessed with the Frozen 2 soundtrack. The movie opens with All is Found, a sad and beautiful lullaby performed by Evan Rachel Wood as Queen Aduna. It’s been the most requested song by my nieces and we sing it all day long. *

One of my peeves about Frozen is that Jonathan Groff only got one little singing part in Kristoff’s reindeer song. I’ve loved him from Glee, Spring Awakening and Hamilton. Now he gets an 80s hair band power ballad music video and I died watching this part! It was epic!

Into the Unknown, Show Yourself and The Next Right Thing are super inspiring and moving, and Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell just kill it. Anna’s song brings me to tears every time.

The soundtrack also features awesome covers by Panic! At the Disco, Kacey Musgraves, and Weezer.

Some other faves

Pay attention to young Elsa and Anna’s snowy toys for some fun easter eggs. I liked the addition of Sterling K. Brown as Lieutenant Mattias. You know if Randall Pearson is around, everything will work out. Also, I think the animators referenced Kristen Bell’s reaction to a sloth in capturing some of Anna’s expressions.

And of course there was Bruni, the fire salamander. So much cute!*

Have you seen Frozen 2?

Let me know what you thought of Frozen 2 in the comments below. I wonder if there are going to be any more movies, maybe focusing on other seasons and some other potential events that I’m not going to spoil. I want to hear your theories! Samantha???
