Have you signed up for the Disney+ streaming service? If you are a fan of Disney, Marvel, Muppets or Star Wars, it’s a must. And if you’re weighing the costs of streaming services, it’s pretty affordable at $6.99 a month, with even better deals with a Hulu/ESPN bundle.

This isn’t an affiliate post. I just love this service! Here are eight reasons why it’s always on at my house.

1. The Child

I have spoken.

2. Also, The Mandalorian

I really enjoyed this 8-episode Star Wars series from Jon Farveau. It’s got a Western-type vibe. Our dude Mando is bouncing around the galaxy, with his unexpected ward, and getting into all kinds of trouble. One of the things I’ve loved has been the roster of guest stars. Amy Sedaris is now part of Star Wars canon. Amazing! It’s got action, weird creatures and aliens, and humor all set in the used universe of Star Wars legend. And of course, see number 1.

Disney+ Encore

3. Encore

Kristen Bell produces this series that reunites high school theater kids 20 plus years later to restage their former productions. This show brings me so much joy. I was the kind of nerd in high school who thought the drama nerds were cool. I love musicals so much and still go see the shows put on at my old school whenever I can. So this is a show that speaks, or should I say sings, to me!

I think I also love it because most of these alumns are people my age, and it’s a hoot to see them getting back into character with bodies that don’t move like they used and heads that don’t have as much hair! It’s also wonderful to see the journey they take to rediscover their high school selves and realize being a teen wasn’t all so bad and that they’ve overcome so much. And all with catchy songs and an occasional visit from Kristen Bell!

4. The Disney Vault

Love having access to so many classics! My all-time fave Alice in Wonderland was first on my list. And a lot of the movies I grew up with pre-Little Mermaid are on there like Fox the Hound, the Sword and the Stone, the Great Mouse Detective, and the Rescuers – another one of my faves.

5. Old-timey Disney movies

When I was a kid, the Disney Channel wasn’t even on 24 hours a day. Most of the programming was weird stuff like Dumbo’s Circus (anyone remember that?), episodes of Ozzie and Harriet, the old Mickey Mouse Club, and lots of old Disney movies that I don’t think have been on TV in ages. Stuff like Herbie the Lovebug, the Apple Dumpling Gang, the Shaggy Dog, and Davy Crockett, which my mom likes to remind me was the first movie I saw in a theater. Re-release, of course. I haven’t dug into the archives yet, but I think it will be fun to watch to see how some of these hold up or not.

6. The Simpsons

I’ve been watching The Simpsons since the show debuted when I was in eighth grade and now I can watch any of my favorite episodes.

7. Animation

So many animated things to watch! I already binged the new Duck Tales, which is epic, and have been revisiting the classic X-Men cartoons. It’s a bit cheesy visually, but the story is still so good. My little niece is now a fan of Rey thanks to the Forces of Destiny shorts. There’s just about every Disney afternoon and Disney Channel cartoon, plus all the classic shorts.

Disney+

8. Disney+ originals

I really enjoyed the Christmas movie, Noelle, starring Anna Kendrick. It was a bit like Elf, but a little more family friendly. I’ve also watched some of the shorts that feature Pixar in real life and a day in the life of a Disney employee. Still need to watch the new Lady and the Tramp!

What are you watching?

Here are eight reasons why I'm obsessed with Disney+ streaming service, including Baby Yoda, of course! What shows and movies have you been watching?
